Spending on international travel of Brazilians reached U.S. $ 1.627 billion in Marchthis year, according to data released today (24) Central Bank. This was the second consecutive month in which there was a reduction in spending. In February, these expenses totaled U.S. $ 1.746 billion and in January, U.S. $ 1.996 billion.
The result of last month was also lower than that recorded in March 2011, when those costs were U.S. $ 1.645 billion.
From January to March, the Brazilian spending reached $ 5.381 billion, compared with $ 4.752 billion seen in the same period in 2011. The result of the first quarter was a record for the period. But was below the record $ 5.926 billion, recorded in the third quarter last year.
In comparison, revenues from foreign on trips in Brazil reached U.S. $ 630 million inMarch, compared with U.S. $ 609 million in the same month last year. From January to March, these revenues totaled $ 1.92 billion, against U.S. $ 1.748 billion in the first three months of 2011.
With the cost of Brazilian and foreign revenues, the travel account ended the month with a deficit of $ 997 million. In the first quarter, the negative result was $ 3.461 billion.
