Expected to start operations in June 2014, in time for the World Cup 2014, the International Airport of São Gonçalo do Amarante, ten kilometers from the capital of Rio Grande do Norte, has only 15% of the work completed.

The airport, which does not yet exist, is expected to receive about six million passengers per year from 2014.

Despite missing only 15 months for the big football event in the country, Inframérica consortium, which has the right to make the work, issued a statement saying that the fact still missing 85% of the work to be completed is not worrisome, since everything is on schedule.

In 2011, the work was scheduled to finish in late 2013. Now, the forecast is for March 2014.

However, the work does not have an obligation to be ready before the World Cup, but the schedule was anticipated for the concessionaire can capitalize on income that will be generated with the games in the country.
